Rhode Island Fire Fighters Kick Off Statewide Fill the Boot Campaign on 7/29 to Benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Associaiton

The International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) in Rhode Island will join the fight against neuromuscular disease by holding a statewide Fill the Boot drive for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) on Saturday, July 30, 2011.

A media kick off event will be held on Friday, July 29, 2011 at the Warwick Local 2748 Fire House, located at 111 Veterans Memorial Drive, Warwick, R.I. 02886. The event will begin at 11 a.m.

Local 2748 is the highest fundraising local in R.I. Representatives from participating fire departments will also be in attendance at the kick off event.

The following day, fire fighters across the state will be collecting donations for MDA at various locations in Rhode Island. Some of the fire departments involved include Cranston Local 1363, Pawtucket Local 1261, Providence Local 799, Smithfield Local 2050, Johnston Local 1950, North Smithfield Local 3984, and Warwick Local 2748. All proceeds will benefit MDA’s services, research programs, and support groups that benefit individuals and families in the local area.

This is the IAFF’s 57th year dedicating their time and efforts to MDA. Since 1954, they have raised over $275 million dollars for the organization. They are the largest national sponsor of the MDA and pride themselves on their devotion to the cause.

MDA is the nonprofit health agency dedicated to curing muscular dystrophy, ALS and related diseases by funding worldwide research. The Association also provides comprehensive health care and support services, advocacy and education. MDA also supports nearly 330 research projects around the world and sponsors 200 hospital-affiliated clinics.
