Watertown Fire Department to Hold Fill-the-Boot Drive for MDA

WATERTOWN, Conn., June 19, 2010 – The Watertown Fire Department will be filling-the-boot for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) on Friday, June 25 and Saturday, June 26, 2010.

On Friday, June 25, Watertown firefighters will be collecting donations for the fight against neuromuscular disease from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the intersection of Route 262 and Buckingham Road. On Saturday, June 26, firefighters will be filling-the-boot from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. at various locations on Main Street in Watertown and Oakville. Area Junior Goodwill Ambassador T.J. MacClean will be at the Watertown Fire Department on Saturday to greet the fire fighters as they return after the Boot Drive. All of the proceeds will go towards MDA’s services, research programs, and support groups that benefit individuals and families in the local area.

The Watertown Fire Department has been supporting MDA for over two decades, raising over $125,000 for the Association. This year, the Watertown Fire Department, under the direction of Lieutenant Kevin Palmer, has set a goal to raise $10,000 with their fill-the-boot efforts.
MDA is the nonprofit health agency dedicated to curing muscular dystrophy, ALS and related diseases by funding worldwide research. The Association also provides comprehensive health care and support services, advocacy and education. MDA also supports nearly 330 research projects around the world and sponsors 200 hospital-affiliated clinics.
