West Haven Fire Department Local 1198 to Hold Citywide Car Wash and Fill-the-Boot to Benefit MDA

WEST HAVEN, Conn., June 17, 2010 – The West Haven Fire Department Local 1198 will hold a citywide car wash and fill-the-boot for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) on Saturday, June 26, 2010. In the event of rain, the event will be moved to Sunday, June 27, 2010.

The three fire districts of the West Haven Fire Department will be washing cars and collecting donations for the fight against neuromuscular disease at three different locations in West Haven from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. including the Steven Heights Fire Station at 99 Meloy Road, the Dawson Avenue Fire Station at 860 Ocean Avenue and Dadds Xtreme Indoor Sports at 867 Boston Post Road. The West Haven Local 1198 is aiming to raise $5,000 at this event. All of the proceeds will go towards MDA’s services, research programs, and support groups that benefit individuals and families in the local area. Last year, West Haven locals raised a total of $17,300 for MDA. This year they have set a goal to raise a total of $18,000 through all of their fill-the-boot fundraising efforts.

Volunteers are more than welcome to help out at this event. To get involved, contact any of the fire stations in West Haven or stop by on the day of the event.
The West Haven Fire Department Local 1198 is part of the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF). This is the IAFF’s 56th year dedicating their time and efforts to MDA. Since 1954 they have raised nearly $275 million for the organization. They are the largest national sponsor of MDA and pride themselves on their devotion to the cause.

MDA is the nonprofit health agency dedicated to curing muscular dystrophy, ALS and related diseases by funding worldwide research. The Association also provides comprehensive health care and support services, advocacy and far-reaching professional and public health education.
