Woodbridge Professional Firefighters Burned the Roof Raising Funds for MDA


Woodbridge, N.J., June 21, 2010 – The Woodbridge Township Fire Department Local 290 held a Bowl-A-Thon Fundraiser at the Woodbridge Bowling Center on Saturday, June 12, 2010 to benefit local families served by the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) in Central N.J.

Over 20 firefighters and their friends and family came to bowl for a great cause, raising over $5,000 for the Association. MDA N.J. Goodwill Ambassador and local Fords, N.J. resident, Sierra Acevedo, was there to show her support and cheer on the bowlers.

The Woodbridge Township Professional Firefighters Local 290 is part of the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF). The IAFF made it their mission to help MDA 56 year ago, and has since dedicating many hours to fundraising and volunteering, all to help raise awareness and find treatment and cures for neuromuscular diseases. Today, the IAFF is the largest national sponsor of MDA, raising over $275 million since fundraising began in 1954.

MDA is the nonprofit health agency dedicated to curing muscular dystrophy, ALS and related diseases by funding worldwide research. The Association also provides comprehensive health care and support services, advocacy and education. MDA also supports nearly 330 research projects around the world and sponsors 200 hospital-affiliated clinics.
